For reasons lost in the mists of time, it's almost universally accepted that for a few days a year it is deemed most uncool to be a dick.
In fact being actively undickish is positively encouraged.
Like a kind of inverted purge.
Apparently there are some heroic citizens out there who view this as a year round undertaking.
But honestly, who's got that kind of energy? Everything's just so tiring, don't you think?
Still, a few days a year won't kill you.
